The film Swim City<\/em> shows us how vital rivers are for the well-being of the entire urban pop\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion. Whether in the Danube baths in Vien\u00adna, the botan\u00adi\u00adcal gar\u00addens of Tbil\u00adisi, or the rivers in Basel and Zurich\u2014everywhere peo\u00adple are jump\u00ading into the water on warm and even cold days. In oth\u00ader cities, too, where rivers are only just being redis\u00adcov\u00adered as open spaces, ini\u00adtia\u00adtives are being formed to raise aware\u00adness of the val\u00adue of water in the city. This, how\u00adev\u00ader, goes far beyond the mere pop\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adiz\u00ading of swim\u00adming. They are also move\u00adments that fight for pub\u00adlic access to water against the back\u00adground of increas\u00ading pri\u00adva\u00adti\u00adza\u00adtion of riv\u00ader banks. They make it clear that rivers must be tak\u00aden seri\u00adous\u00adly as impor\u00adtant arter\u00adies in larg\u00ader eco\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
