Twen\u00adty years ago, the archi\u00adtec\u00adture office ZUS moved into an anony\u00admous Schieblock in Rot\u00adter\u00addam as an anti-squat\u00adter. At that time, how\u00adev\u00ader, the areas sur\u00adround\u00ading this block were cut up and sep\u00ada\u00adrat\u00aded by roads and rail\u00adway lines. This is how the idea of a bridge was born. The hope: new impuls\u00ades and uses for emp\u00adty build\u00adings and urban waste\u00adlands. Inter\u00adest\u00ading\u00adly, the bridge brought peo\u00adple togeth\u00ader even before it exist\u00aded. Via an inter\u00adnet plat\u00adform, peo\u00adple were able to pur\u00adchase wood\u00aden plank\u00ading for the future bridge, which was ful\u00adly opened in 2015. Oth\u00ader aspects of the project were strong\u00adly sup\u00adport\u00aded by the munic\u00adi\u00adpal\u00adi\u00adty of Rot\u00adter\u00addam: Work and office space, restau\u00adrants, caf\u00e9s, and green spaces. Since then, there has been a lot of talk about the quarter\u2019s new vital\u00adi\u00adty but also about the con\u00adse\u00adquences of upgrad\u00ading and exclusivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entire pedes\u00adtri\u00adan bridge is paint\u00aded in sig\u00adnal yel\u00adlow, for Kris\u00adt\u00adian Kore\u00adman of ZUS the col\u00ador of a tem\u00adpo\u00adrary bridge. But this is no longer the bridge\u2014here in the Schiekade cross\u00ading. The first con\u00adstruc\u00adtion phase of the Luchtsin\u00adgel was financed by the sale of indi\u00advid\u00adual wood\u00aden slats, which were offered for sale for 25 Euros each. 17,000 boards were sold in this way. \u00a9 Ossip van Duivenbode<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Luchtsin\u00adgel (Luft\u00adgracht) is the name of a 390-meter-long wood\u00aden bridge that the ini\u00adtia\u00adtors describe as a cat\u00ada\u00adlyst for eco\u00adnom\u00adic growth\u2014not least because it con\u00adnects dis\u00adtricts in the north of Rot\u00adter\u00addam that were pre\u00advi\u00adous\u00adly sep\u00ada\u00adrat\u00aded by rail\u00adroad tracks with the city cen\u00adter.
