The Robert Walser sculp\u00adture wants to rethink Robert Walser and pro\u00advoke encoun\u00adters. Accord\u00ading to Hirschhorn, it wants to be an event and shape a new form of art in pub\u00adlic space. Yet the Hirschhorn land\u00adscape of palettes, ply\u00adwood boards and adhe\u00adsive tape is not an object that is just stand\u00ading around some\u00adwhere and always looks the same. It wants to be acces\u00adsi\u00adble to every\u00adone at all times and is actu\u00adal\u00adly only cre\u00adat\u00aded through inter\u00adac\u00adtion with the space, through the activ\u00adi\u00adties that take place in it, and through the peo\u00adple who appro\u00adpri\u00adate these spaces. Thomas Hirschhorn\u2019s works address the chal\u00adlenges of our time. They deal with cli\u00admate emer\u00adgency and jus\u00adtice, con\u00adsumer excess and alien\u00adation. Many of the geopo\u00adlit\u00adi\u00adcal dis\u00adcus\u00adsions raised by the artist, which we can usu\u00adal\u00adly hold at a dis\u00adtance, col\u00adlapse over and upon us. We break in. We become part of the Hirschhorn\u00adian cos\u00admos, which so clear\u00adly says how impor\u00adtant it is to take a stance. At first glance, the exhib\u00adit\u00aded col\u00adlage seems strange\u00adly sober, almost alien\u00adat\u00aded. Val\u00adues and atti\u00adtudes, not solu\u00adtions, are at its core. We seek sim\u00adple answers to the mul\u00adti\u00adtude of ques\u00adtions in vain. Rather, the project is about estab\u00adlish\u00ading social rela\u00adtion\u00adships, act\u00ading togeth\u00ader, the inven\u00adtion of prac\u00adtices that pro\u00adduce or change spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bbI love Robert Walser\u00ab says Hirschhorn about the writer born in Biel, Switzer\u00adland. Walser always \u201cdescribed the small, the unno\u00adticed, the weak, the unim\u00adpor\u00adtant, the seri\u00adous, [took it] seri\u00adous\u00adly and was inter\u00adest\u00aded in it. It was in this spir\u00adit that the Robert Walser sculp\u00adture, a built land\u00adscape that will fill the entire sta\u00adtion fore\u00adcourt of Biel\/Bienne in 2019, was cre\u00adat\u00aded as a reminder and homage to as well as a meet\u00ading place with this man and his work. It was planned and real\u00adized as a pub\u00adlic place of expe\u00adri\u00adence, open to all\u2014with 86 days\u2014of read\u00adings, exhi\u00adbi\u00adtions, a lit\u00ader\u00ada\u00adture insti\u00adtute, a Walser cen\u00adter with a work\u00ading library, a dai\u00adly news\u00adpa\u00adper and a bar, Esperan\u00adto cours\u00ades and the\u00adater, children\u2019s pro\u00adgrams, talks, films, doc\u00adu\u00admen\u00adtaries, hikes and dai\u00adly open\u00adings.
