The rea\u00adson: a fight of the non-prof\u00adit GmbH ExRo\u00adtaprint for the rights of use of land and build\u00adings that has been going on for years, repeat\u00aded\u00adly bro\u00adken promis\u00ades and dubi\u00adous nego\u00adti\u00ada\u00adtions between the own\u00ader of the land\u2014the Liegen\u00adschafts\u00adfond Berlin\u2014and inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal real estate com\u00adpa\u00adnies despite already promised and almost com\u00adplet\u00aded han\u00addover. After long nego\u00adti\u00ada\u00adtions and mas\u00adsive resis\u00adtance the vic\u00adto\u00adry comes for the gGmbH. With the help of Stiftung trias and Stiftung Edith Mary\u00adon, the site is pur\u00adchased in late sum\u00admer 2007 and a 99-year ground lease agree\u00adment is signed with ExRo\u00adtaprint gGmbH. This makes the gGmbH the own\u00ader of the build\u00adings and sole\u00adly respon\u00adsi\u00adble for the project devel\u00adop\u00adment. The pos\u00adsi\u00adble spec\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtive spi\u00adral has been inter\u00adrupt\u00aded. Since then, the entire com\u00adplex has been man\u00adaged and run accord\u00ading to non-prof\u00adit prin\u00adci\u00adples with the aim of secur\u00ading het\u00adero\u00adge\u00adneous uses and afford\u00adable rents in the long term. The project is described as a \u201csocial sculp\u00adture\u201d, which is at the same time firm\u00adly anchored in the neigh\u00adbor\u00adhood and active\u00adly engaged in urban the\u00ado\u00adry dis\u00adcourse in order to con\u00adtin\u00adu\u00adous\u00adly expand the basis of its work. \u00a9 Mar\u00adtin Eberle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The book and action research project Fund\u00ading the Coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtive City. Com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty Finance and the Econ\u00ado\u00admy of Civic Spaces<\/em> describes numer\u00adous case stud\u00adies from across Europe, which tell of how local com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty finance can be set up. A wide vari\u00adety of groups that have devel\u00adoped new mod\u00adels for devel\u00adop\u00ading and oper\u00adat\u00ading non-com\u00admer\u00adcial spaces for their neigh\u00adbor\u00adhoods are pre\u00adsent\u00aded and dis\u00adcussed. None of this is easy, as many inter\u00adviews and dis\u00adcus\u00adsion notes reveal. But it is pos\u00adsi\u00adble: through the for\u00adma\u00adtion of sol\u00adi\u00addar\u00adi\u00adty net\u00adworks, neigh\u00adbor\u00adly com\u00admit\u00adment, a will\u00ading\u00adness to exper\u00adi\u00adment, and admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtive and often finan\u00adcial sup\u00adport from the respec\u00adtive communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This changed in 2013, when a non-prof\u00adit civ\u00adil soci\u00adety asso\u00adci\u00ada\u00adtion took over the build\u00ading from the munic\u00adi\u00adpal\u00adi\u00adty.
