In 2009, the munic\u00adi\u00adpal\u00adi\u00adty of Tilburg, togeth\u00ader with two large real estate and con\u00adstruc\u00adtion groups, acquired a mas\u00adsive plot direct\u00adly behind the main rail\u00adway sta\u00adtion. The orig\u00adi\u00adnal plan was to demol\u00adish exist\u00ading build\u00adings, such as the for\u00admer loco\u00admo\u00adtive hall, or LocHal for short, and to con\u00adstruct huge office and apart\u00adment com\u00adplex\u00ades. How\u00adev\u00ader, the deci\u00adsion was reversed. Instead of demo\u00adli\u00adtion, rede\u00advel\u00adop\u00adment and con\u00adver\u00adsions took root. And so, in 2019, the munic\u00adi\u00adpal library\u2014which is much more than just a col\u00adlec\u00adtion of books\u2014opened here. Its glass hall pro\u00adtects an inner-city square with a caf\u00e9 and open stair\u00adcase. There are also archives, offices, as well as event rooms and, on the perime\u00adters, work\u00adshop areas and small meet\u00ading rooms. The many peo\u00adple who use the build\u00ading for a wide range of activ\u00adi\u00adties make it clear that pub\u00adlic space will con\u00adtin\u00adue to play an essen\u00adtial role in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
