The Chor der Sta\u00adtis\u00adtik was brought to life in 2019 by musi\u00adcian Bernadette La Hengst and exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal archi\u00adtec\u00adture col\u00adlec\u00adtive raum\u00adlabor\u00adber\u00adlin. An open call attract\u00aded peo\u00adple who want\u00aded to sing about the chal\u00adlenges of urban devel\u00adop\u00adment process\u00ades. The spe\u00adcif\u00adic rea\u00adson for the choir\u2019s ini\u00adti\u00ada\u00adtion is the ongo\u00ading trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtion of the long-emp\u00adty Haus der Sta\u00adtis\u00adtik in Berlin. The joint\u00adly devel\u00adoped songs raise ques\u00adtions, address fears, and for\u00admu\u00adlate demands. And so, the choir sings about dis\u00adplace\u00adment and the right to the city, it artic\u00adu\u00adlates prob\u00adlems around rent increas\u00ades and the pri\u00adva\u00adti\u00adza\u00adtion of space. Singing togeth\u00ader and pub\u00adlic appear\u00adances are equal\u00adly protest and demon\u00adstra\u00adtion at the same time. \u00bbFor a bet\u00adter future,\u00ab says the choir direc\u00adtor, rais\u00ading her baton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The House of Sta\u00adtis\u00adtics on Berlin\u2019s Alexan\u00adder\u00adplatz was stand\u00ading emp\u00adty for almost ten years, until a group of art and cul\u00adture pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adals claimed on large ban\u00adners that the city want\u00aded to set up afford\u00adable stu\u00addios at this loca\u00adtion. What began as a prank has in recent years become a com\u00adplex urban plan\u00adning project ded\u00adi\u00adcat\u00aded to the pub\u00adlic wel\u00adfare-ori\u00adent\u00aded devel\u00adop\u00adment of the area. \u00a9 Felix Marlow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
As part of the pio\u00adneer\u00ading uses of the Haus der Sta\u00adtis\u00adtik, the Chor der Sta\u00adtis\u00adtik was found\u00aded in 2019\u2014a project ini\u00adti\u00adat\u00aded by raum\u00adlabor\u00adber\u00adlin and the artist and singer Bernadette La Hengst. The songs of the choir\u2014here a pub\u00adlic per\u00adfor\u00admance dur\u00ading the Berlin Art Week in Sep\u00adtem\u00adber 2019\u2014focus on the ten\u00adsions of urban devel\u00adop\u00adments: Hous\u00ading short\u00adage and every\u00adday racism as well as sol\u00adi\u00addar\u00adi\u00adty prac\u00adtices for a right to a city for all. \u00a9 Vic\u00adto\u00adria Tomaschko<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
