It promis\u00ades solu\u00adtions for cities with high emis\u00adsion lev\u00adels caused by motor\u00adized vehi\u00adcles. The reduc\u00adtion of traf\u00adfic means that the val\u00adue of pub\u00adlic spaces increas\u00ades or that a space becomes tru\u00adly pub\u00adlic for the first time, and exist\u00ading uses are increased or new ones made pos\u00adsi\u00adble. Six such superblocks have been real\u00adized in Barcelona to date. Fears that the retail trade would suf\u00adfer as a result of reduced access for cars have not come true. Instead, the num\u00adber of trips made on foot or by bicy\u00adcle have gone up and the air qual\u00adi\u00adty has improved.
