Sur\u00adveil\u00adlance cam\u00aderas have become an inte\u00adgral part of cityscapes in many parts of Europe. But cam\u00aderas are not neu\u00adtral com\u00adpan\u00adions: every\u00adthing goes into these devices and is trans\u00admit\u00adted. Some\u00adone, some\u00adwhere else, watch\u00ades, eval\u00adu\u00adates, process\u00ades, analy\u00adses, and doc\u00adu\u00adments it all. What else? We don\u2019t know exact\u00adly, because much of it is kept under lock and key. Kyle McDon\u00adald wants to under\u00adstand how new tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies affect or influ\u00adence us. He uploads video record\u00adings of pub\u00adlic spaces onto the inter\u00adnet, reveal\u00ading what is nor\u00admal\u00adly only seen by oth\u00aders. Any\u00adone can com\u00adment on what they see online: encoun\u00adters, argu\u00adments, rain, sun. Peo\u00adple become objects of enter\u00adtain\u00adment, some\u00adtimes amuse\u00adment. McDon\u00adald thus makes vis\u00adi\u00adble how this ubiq\u00adui\u00adtous media arma\u00adment is rapid\u00adly rel\u00ade\u00adgat\u00ading eth\u00adi\u00adcal questions\u2014why who is allowed to see what and how\u2014to the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
