Gerhard Lang with Marching Band phon-O-rama: Der Mobile Zebrastreifen

26. September 2020  @ 12:00 16:00 CEST

How can pedestrians cross a street legally where it makes sense for them to do so and not according to traffic planners’ preference? Thanks to Gerhard Lang’s Mobile Zebra Crossing, a procession of people will parade through the streets near Tempelhof Airport, changing sides of the road all over following general traffic regulations. The procession, first organized in 1993 in Kassel’s city center, honors Lang’s friend, collaborator, and former professor, Lucius Burckhardt (1925–2003), the founder of »Strollology« at the Gesamthochschule Kassel. Burckhardt formulated his criticism of the prevailing automobile-oriented planning practice from the perspective of the pedestrian.
