Over/come: No Shade at Living the City
30. October 2020 @ 17:00 — 1. November 2020 @ 20:00 CET
*The workshop is addressed in particular to BIPOC, who will also be prioritized in the pre-registration.
Artists from marginalized communities, often operating on the fringes of society, contribute enormously for the creation spaces where groups of people can come together to socialize, celebrate, and innovate free from the constraints imposed on them, and these spaces form the foundation for the established nightlife spaces that have become formative for cities like Berlin. However, it is often that those people are not compensated for their work and contribution, specially in comparison to their counterparts who belong to mainstream identities. Bureaucratic obstacles and structural challenges are imposed on them on a regular basis hindering their access for financial, spatial and other types of resources.
This three-day workshop presented by the Berlin collective No Shade aims to help artists from marginalized identities to deal with those barriers—how to get funding, visibility and foster their career growth. The lectures and talks are tailored for people who experience difficulties due to who they are and the specific restrictions that are embedded with not belonging to a hegemonic demographic.
Important info: Due to corona restrictions we have a limited capacity, if you have registered and can’t make it, please send us a message at noshade.workshop@gmail.com, so we can give the spot to someone else. The workshops will be held in person inside the Living the City exhibition in the former airport Berlin-Tempelhof.
