Double Feature: 1. Ahmet Öğüt: Artist at Work in Times of Crisis; 2. Philipp Misselwitz: Cities and Crise—Planing in a World of Uncertainty

Ahmet Öğüt, a con­cep­tu­al artist from Turkey, works in a wide range of media, includ­ing pho­tog­ra­phy, video, and instal­la­tion to address top­ics such as cul­tur­al iden­ti­ties and polit­i­cal ide­olo­gies. He often uses humor and loose nar­ra­tive struc­tures to offer his com­men­tary on rather seri­ous and press­ing social and polit­i­cal issues. In 2009, he rep­re­sent­ed Turkey in the Pavil­ion of Turkey at the 53rd Venice Bien­nale.

Philipp Mis­sel­witz is an archi­tect and urban researcher. Since 2013, he has been a uni­ver­si­ty pro­fes­sor at the TU Berlin’s Habi­tat Unit–Department of Inter­na­tion­al Urban­ism and Design. He stud­ied at Cam­bridge Uni­ver­si­ty and the Archi­tec­tur­al Asso­ci­a­tion in Lon­don. As a con­sul­tant for the GIZ and UN orga­ni­za­tions and as part of his doc­tor­ate, he has been work­ing on urban­iza­tion process­es in refugee camps since 2005 and has devel­oped par­tic­i­pa­to­ry plan­ning strate­gies to involve the refugees in improv­ing their liv­ing con­di­tions. He is a share­hold­er of Urban Cat­a­lyst GmbH and a vis­it­ing pro­fes­sor at the Uni­ver­si­ty of the Wit­wa­ter­srand, Johan­nes­burg.
